Natural or lab-grown: the difference
Natural and lab-grown diamonds are made of the same thing: carbon, in the same crystal structure. They have the same hardness and the same sparkle, and you cannot tell them apart by eye. What differs is their origin. A natural diamond formed deep in the earth over millions of years; a lab-grown diamond is grown in a laboratory in weeks.

Both are real diamonds. We always tell you which kind a piece contains, and its certificate states it.
What the certificate tells you
A diamond grading report describes the four Cs:
- Carat: the weight of the diamond.
- Colour: how colourless it is.
- Clarity: how free it is from natural marks.
- Cut: how well it is shaped to reflect light.
It also states whether the diamond is natural or laboratory-grown. Ask to see the certificate for any piece before you buy.
